Rana Ayyub’s father’s name is Mohammad Ayyub Waqif and she has not shared his mother’s name anywhere so far. Her father Mohammad Ayyub Waqif was a writer for a magazine named Blitz in Mumbai and also a member of the progressive writer’s movement. She has one brother named Arif Ayyub and one sister named Iffat Shaikh.

Career

In the starting days of her career, Ayyub worked as a freelancer for different news channels. In 2008, she joined an Indian news magazine named Tehelka as a Investigations and Political affairs journalist.

She was working on an operation that was based on the 2002 riots in Gujarat, on which she also wrote a book name Gujarat Files, but Tehelka’s management refused to publish any of his stories because the editor-in-chief claims that the data collected by Ayyub was fake.

In November 2013, she decided to resign from Tehelka because of a dispute between her and the editor-in-chief and major shareholder of Tehelka Tarun Tejpal as he was accused of sexual harassment by one of his journalist subordinates.
